Oil, Gas or Electric Hot Water Heater

A: Reduce temperature setting to 125 - 130 F.
B: Install time clock. Suggested setting: (Off 9:00 p.m. - On 5:00 a.m.)
C: Insulated hot water heater.
D: Flush hot water heater reservoir at least yearly.
E: Check local library for solar heat systems.

Fireplace Chimney Seal

The loss of heated air is considerable which also creates a negative pressure in the house or building allowing cold air to enter in many locations. A chimney seal can easily be installed and removed in the event you use your fireplace. Check in the phone directory for a fireplace outlet in your area.

Refrigerator

Using a thermometer, check the temperature in the refrigerator & freezer.

Average Refrigerator Temperature: 36 to 40 F
Average Freezer Temperature: 0 to 10 F

The higher the freezer temperature, the faster bacteria growth will form when the food is left in the freezer for long periods. Place a thermometer in each area. Wait 20 minutes and check the temperature If the temperature is higher or lower than average, change the thermostat setting as required.

Do Not overfill: This will cause poor air circulation and subsequent food loss.
Door Gaskets: Check door gaskets with a strip of newspaper.

The seal should be tight, not loose. Ice build up or water on the floor could be caused by door gaskets not sealing properly. Most gaskets tend to harden and crack over time. Call your service company or do it your self by calling the manufacturer. They will tell you where to get the door gasket kit if you give them the model and serial number. (usually located inside of the door).

Note: Do not place refrigerator next to a high heat sources such as an oven, range, etc.
